Dancing Hookers!

If you're going to make a musical about campy coked out pimps and hos circa 1990 (???) then this is the way to do it. It's the campiest belt fest EVER. I could say this was my first glimpse at camp- back in 1997, this was the first year Rosie O'Donnell hosted the Tonys and they were AMAZING. This number was played over and over on my VCR, though I'd lost much of the rest of the tape when I recorded over it accidentally for a Mary Catherine Gallagher/Aerosmith SNL sketch.

EVERYTHING about this number is perfect. Talk about bitches...

Tila!

Did anyone know that Tila Tequila had a song?! I didn't it, nor was I prepared for this video. Style, lyrics, EVERYTHING is unexpected in a jaw-hitting-the-floor kind of way. It's truly shocking.

Notes on Camp

by Susan Sontag.
Seriously. A must read.

Ring It!

UMich kids are campy. Here's a RICH example. This is a number from the dance workshop choreographed and performed by a campy group of freshman girls. It's chock full of lady-like hip gyrations and non-stop beveling. I actually love it! A+ ladies!

Every day is a HOLIDAY

Thanks Nina for sending this. The combination of Rosie and Jennifer Holiday AND those striped cell block tango gobos scattered on the floor got me wet. The straight up belting is great, but just wait for the ending. Like, is she serious!? What a BITCH!
